The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the worldwide shared goals set out in the “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” adopted at the United Nations Summit in September 2015. The Preamble of the 2030 Agenda states the pledge to “Leave No One Behind” and calls for action by all people to realize a sustainable and inclusive society. The SDGs are goals for realizing this pledge and consist of 17 goals with 169 targets and 232 indicators.
The most important parts of the 2030 Agenda are the Preamble and the SDGs. The Preamble depicts the pledge to “Leave No One Behind,” which indicates the ultimate goal of protecting the human rights of every person. That is what all the SDGs goals are about. The Preamble also mentions the balance of “three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental.” These three dimensions are called the triple bottom line, which means that we evaluate the consequences of our actions in terms of social equity, economic factors, and environmental factors.
The Preamble outlines the 5Ps that should be valued. They are “People”, “Prosperity”, “Planet”, “Peace”, and “Partnership”. We believe that 17goals apply to each of the 5Ps as follows.
